The African Academy of Sciences (AAS) proudly congratulates Professor Abba B. Gumel, a distinguished mathematical scientist and Fellow of the African Academy of Sciences (FAAS), on his election as President-Elect of the Society for Mathematical Biology, one of the world’s leading professional organizations dedicated to advancing the application of mathematics to biological and medical sciences.
Prof Gumel’s election is a significant milestone that recognizes his exceptional contributions to mathematical biology and his leadership in using mathematical modelling to address some of the world’s most pressing public health challenges. As President-Elect, he will help shape the Society’s strategic direction and promote the advancement of interdisciplinary research that bridges mathematics, biology, and medicine.
An internationally acclaimed mathematical epidemiologist, Prof Gumel has built an outstanding career at the intersection of mathematics and public health.
