Ugandan Public Health Expert Dr David Musoke Receives Top Honor at International Festival of Public Health
Dr David Musoke receiving the award from Professor Arpana Verma, the Director of the Department of Public Health at The University of Manchester, UK.
The two-day event, hosted by the renowned University of Manchester in the UK on 6th and 7th July 2023, showcased cutting-edge research, innovative ideas, and novel approaches to addressing global public health challenges.
The International Festival of Public Health provides a public and inclusive platform for researchers, practitioners, students, and public health professionals from around the world. It serves as a hub for sharing knowledge, fostering collaborations, and exploring new avenues for enhancing services, research, and teaching in the field of public health.
Amidst the gathering of esteemed experts, Dr Musoke earned recognition for his presentations: "Facilitators and barriers to integrated malaria prevention in Wakiso district, Uganda: a photovoice study" and "Involvement of Community Health Workers in the COVID-19 pandemic response in Uganda: a qualitative study".
Through his research and presentations, Dr Musoke investigated current measures to malaria control in Uganda’s Wakiso district – such as The World Health Organization’s (WHO) suggestions on combining non-chemical and chemical approaches – as part of an integrated malaria prevention approach that combines multiple prevention methods. Moreover, he provided insights into the crucial roles of Community Health Workers (CHWs) during the COVID-19 pandemic in Uganda.
His success serves as a powerful inspiration for young researchers and aspiring public health professionals in Uganda and beyond by showcasing the potential of local research and expertise. Dr Musoke reinforces the significance of investing in local research to effectively address public health challenges.
