The African Academy of Sciences at Science Forum South Africa 2024
The African Academy of Sciences (AAS) is excited to take part in the Science Forum South Africa (SFSA) 2024, happening from December 2-6, 2024, at the CSIR International Convention Centre in Pretoria, South Africa. This year’s theme, “Education Fit for the 21st Century,” connects with the African Union’s focus on education and innovation in 2024.
A key event for AAS will be Session 6: Partnerships in Emerging Technologies and Innovation, taking place on December 2, 2024, from 16:00 to 17:00. This session will discuss how partnerships in new technologies can help support sustainable development. The panel will be moderated by Mmampei Chaba, a leader from South Africa’s Department of Science and Innovation, and will feature:
• Dr. William Wasswa, AU High-Level Panel on Emerging Technologies (APET)
• Dr. Vincenzo Lorusso, Co-Chair of the AU-EU Innovation Agenda Working Group
• Ms. Maria Flores, Lund University, Sweden
• Dr. Obed Ogega, Head of Programmes, AAS
AAS will also take part in the Youth-in-Innovation Symposium and the Hybrid Workshop on Public Health Innovations. These events will focus on empowering Africa’s youth and highlighting how education and innovation work together to shape a better future.
As Africa moves toward becoming a knowledge-based economy, AAS continues to be a key partner in driving innovation, shaping policies, and ensuring science plays a central role in improving lives across the continent.
With more than 4,500 participants expected, including global leaders, policymakers, academics, and innovators, SFSA 2024 will serve as a vibrant platform for discussions on the future of science in society, innovation partnerships, and transformative technologies. The Forum also supports the African Union’s focus on Education Fit for the 21st Century and Agenda 2063 goals.
