The Global Grant Community is a platform of the African Academy of Sciences. Our mission is to allow more money to flow to the people who need it by using the disruptive power of technology to digitize, standardize and de-risk the due diligence process for both funders and grant receivers. The Global Grant Community platform consists of; The Good Financial Grant Practice Standard, a portal-based pre-certification scheme, and a certification scheme.

The trusted standard for grant funding
At the heart of the Global Grant Community (GGC) is the world’s first international Standard for Good Financial Grant Practice (ARS 1651).
The Standard was developed at the African Academy of Sciences with support from some of the world’s largest public and private sector funders including UKAID, Wellcome, UK Research and Innovation, the UK Dept. of Health & Social Care, the IKEA Foundation, the European & Developing Countries Clinical Trials Partnership (EDCTP), the African Union and the New Partnership for Africa’s Development and Co-ordinating Agency (NEPAD).’

The Standard sets out in detail over 300 points of grant management practice that major funders expect and look for when allocating funding.  These practices run across four areas of: financial management, human resources, procurement and governance.

Simplified digitized platform
Grant receivers of all sizes can register to be Global Grant Community members free of charge.  This provides access to the GGC portal, where funders go to find grant receivers they can rely on to spend their funds effectively.
The GGC portal enables grantors to invite grantees to complete online assessments to assess their compliance to the GFGP standard. Grantors can also view and download assessment reports and supporting documentation submitted by grantees.

Grantees, on the other hand, are able to assess their grant management capabilities against the GFGP Standard, evaluate their organizational policies, procedures and processes, establish adequate controls and successfully deliver results.

Certification Bodies

Maximize your chances to attract more funding
Grant receivers can maximize their prospects of attracting funding, by being audited by a licensed GFGP Certification Body. This involves the completion of a Pre-Certification Assessment to gauge their ability to comply with 1 of 4 tiers of the GFGP Standard.

The results of this assessment act as a blueprint that grant receivers can use to improve their grant management capabilities and move up the tiers of the Standard. Successful organizations receive a detailed audit report and Certificate of Compliance, which can be displayed on a searchable database used by funders as they conduct their due-diligence processes.
