Biography

Dr. Yonghui SONG, Professor and Chief Scientist at the Chinese Research Academy of Environmental Sciences, specializes in water pollution control and river basin management. He focuses on sustainable nutrient management in aquatic systems, pioneering phosphate crystallization technologies for phosphorus recovery from wastewaters. To address non-point source nutrient pollution, he established an integrated technological system encompassing monitoring, source identification, pollutant load quantification, targeted treatment, and adaptive management strategies. In pursuit of eco-friendly river basin governance, Dr. SONG developed three synergistic technological frameworks: advanced wastewater treatment, ecological restoration, and holistic basin management. By implementing comprehensive solutions for main cities and entire basins, he has contributed to the ecological conservation of China's Yellow River, Yangtze River, and Liaohe River. With over 200 peer-reviewed publications in international journals and 50 granted patents, Dr. SONG actively fosters global sustainability initiatives through collaborations with researchers across Europe, Asia, the Americas, and Africa. As a founding member of the International Expert Group on Earth System Preservation (IESP) and elected Fellow of both the European Academy of Sciences and Arts (EASA) and the African Academy of Sciences (March 2025), he is an active driver of transcontinental environmental science diplomacy.
