Biography

Prof Gary Stevens is the South African Research Chairs Initiative (SARCHI) Research Chair in Experimental Petrology (Tier 1) at Stellenbosch University and is also the Director of the Central Analytical Facility at Stellenbosch University. Stevens has an H-index of 23. His current mandate as a (SARCHI) grant holder is to produce significant numbers of high-quality MSc and PhD graduates and he has graduated 5 PhD students and 8 MSc students in the last four years. All of the PhD graduates have published in good quality journals.  In his role as CAF Director, he has helped shape the only comprehensive, open-access, financially self-sustaining provider of analytical services in South Africa. As a result, he is frequently consulted by research-intensive South African universities on creating sustainable centralized analytical services.
