Biography

Robert Clement Abaidoo was born on March 22, 1956, in Saltpond, Ghana. He is a renowned professor in the Department of Theoretical and Applied Biology at KNUST in Ghana. 

Robert began his studies at KNUST, where he obtained his BSc and MSc in Biological Sciences in 1980 and 1984, respectively, and Ph.D. in Agronomy and Soil Science from the University of Hawaii at Manoa, 1997. 

Professionally, Robert grew from a Demonstrator in 1981 to a Professor in 2008 at KNUST. He has taught several courses  in Biological Sciences and Environmental Sciences and supervised over 30 Ph.D. students and many MSc and undergraduate students. Prof. Abaidoo has played several key administrative roles at KNUST: Director of the Office of Grants and Research, 2017-2021; Dean of the School of Graduate Studies, 2014-2017; and Provost of the College of Agriculture and Natural Resources, 2008-2014. His interests lie in improving cropping system productivity and public health using symbiotic soil microbial-plant processes, and producing safer composts from wastewater, poultry manure, and municipal waste for use.

He is currently a consultant and visiting scientist to the International Institute of Tropical Agriculture, based in Nigeria. His pioneering research in Soil and Plant Microbiology resulted in safer use of wastewater and poultry manure in peri-urban agriculture in Ghana.

He has been awarded several accolades, including being adjudged Best Scientist in Ghana for Agriculture & Forestry and Soil Sciences in 2021, 2022, and 2023, as profiled by AD Scientific Index. In view of his academic achievements, he was awarded the Distinguished Professor Award at KNUST in 2016. The career of Prof. Abaidoo has been a sure testimony of his unflinching dedication to the cause of science, education, and research noted for leaving indelible imprints in agricultural practices and academic development, all of which resonate across the broader African continent.
