Peerally Abed Muhammad

Peerally Abed Muhammad was elected as an AAS Fellow in 1993. As a fellow, Peerally Abed Muhammad contributes to the development of the Academy’s strategic direction through participation in AAS activities and governance structures. . This gears the Academys vision of transforming african lives through science.

Bio

Prof. Peerally obtained his M.Sc. in 1964 from the University of Osmania in India and PhD in 1968 from the University of Manchester in UK.  In 1971 he took a position as lecturer at the University of Mauritius becoming Professor in 1983. His research interests include mycological biodiversity, mycological biotechnology, plant pathology, science and technology management and organization. He has served as Head of School of Agriculture, Head of School of Science, and Dean of the Faculty of Science and Pro-vice Chancellor of the University of Mauritius.  He has been member of the Commission on the prerogative of Mercy, member of the council of food and agricultural research, member of the Board of Directors of the Mauritius Broadcasting Corporation and President of the University of Mauritius Academic Staff Association. He has been Chairman of the Road Development Authority in Mauritius.  He is member of TWAS and has also served as Vice President of AAS. He has received national, regional and international awards and recognitions and has 84 publications (2008).
