Olorunseun Ogunwobi was elected as an AAS Fellow in 2025. As a fellow, Olorunseun Ogunwobi contributes to the development of the Academy's strategic direction through participation in AAS activities and governance structures. This gears the Academy's vision of transforming African lives through science.
Dr. Ogunwobi obtained medical degree at the University of Ibadan, and PhD from the University of East Anglia, England. He is Barnett Rosenberg Professor and Chairperson of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology at Michigan State University. His scientific trajectory spans three continents and over two decades of pioneering cancer biology. He holds an H-index of 32, with 13 publications cited over 100 times each, including five with between 225 and 361 citations—a testament to his global impact in molecular oncology. His scholarly output includes over 80 peer-reviewed publications, where he is first author on 21 and senior author on 36, alongside multiple book chapters and six issued U.S. patents, reflecting significant innovation in cancer research. He served as Principal Investigator on more than $15 million in competitive research funding, including major NIH U54 grants advancing cancer health disparities research and the mentorship of underrepresented minority scientists. He was Founding Director of the Center for Cancer Health Disparities Research at Hunter College of the City University of New York where he stewarded community-based research and research education cores. He is a Jefferson Science Fellow, a Fellow of the Academy of Medicine Specialties of Nigeria, among others.
