Bukusi Elizabeth Anne was elected as an AAS Fellow in 2014. As a fellow, Bukusi Elizabeth Anne contributes to the development of the Academy’s strategic direction through participation in AAS activities and governance structures. . This gears the Academys vision of transforming african lives through science.
Dr Bukusi is currently Chief Research Officer and Deputy Director of Research and Training at the Kenyan Medical Research Institute (KEMRI). KEMRI is the national body responsible for carrying out health research in Kenya and is ranked as a leading centre of excellence in health research in Africa, as well as globally. She is also an Adjunct Associate Professor in Obstetrics and Gynaecology and Global Health at the University of Washington, an honorary lecturer in Obstetrics and Gynaecology at Aga Khan University in Nairobi, and Nairobi University, and Adjunct Associate Professor in Obstetrics, Gynaecology and Reproductive Sciences at the University of California San Francisco. Her leadership role in research, women’s health and HIV/AIDS is widely recognized and reflected in her numerous commitments to expert committees at the World Health Organization (Department of Reproductive Health and Scientific and Technical Advisory Group, Special Panel on Country Program and Policy Development in Reproductive Health, Scientific and Technical Advisory Group (STAG)).She is a Board Member of the South African Medical Research Council.
