Professor Alfred K. Njamnshi was elected as an AAS Fellow in 2022. As a fellow, Professor Alfred K. Njamnshi contributes to the development of the Academy’s strategic direction through participation in AAS activities and governance structures. . This gears the Academys vision of transforming african lives through science.

Bio

Alfred Kongnyu NJAMNSHI, MD, MA, DMS, FMH, FCAS, FAAS, FRCP (UK), is professor of Neurology and Neuroscience at the Faculty of Medicine and Biomedical Sciences of The University of Yaoundé I (Cameroon), where he founded and heads the Neuroscience Laboratory, chairs the neurology and neuroscience residency programmes and coordinates the School’s 31 residency programmes. He is also Chief of Neurology at the Yaoundé Central Hospital, the base of his clinical practice and training of students/residents. He obtained his MD from the University of Yaoundé, Cameroon and is Swiss-Board Certified (FMH) in Neurology and Clinical Neurophysiology; holder an MA Education (medical education) from the UK, where he is also Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians (FRCP). Prof Njamnshi is fellow of the Cameroon Academy of Science. He has published over 180 peer-reviewed scientific articles in high impact journals. His current research focus is: brain health as well as basic, clinical, translational and environmental neuroscience.
Prof. Njamnshi is Founder and Executive Director of Brain Research Africa Initiative (BRAIN) (www.brainafrica.org ) with the vision, mission and passion of promoting neuroscience research, brain health and development (R&D) in Africa. The BRAIN global office is in Geneva-Switzerland, where she has obtained the status of a public utility organisation and the continental office is in Yaoundé, Cameroon. BRAIN has a network of partner institutions that help her accomplish her mission, including university/research institutions in the USA, Europe and Africa, including the African Union Commission and 24 Faculties of Medicine from 15 African countries. 
Prof. Njamnshi is President of the Society of Cameroonian Neurologists (SCAN), Delegate for Cameroon to the World Federation of Neurology (WFN) Council of Delegates, WFN emeritus Director for Africa, Life Past President of the Pan African Association of Neurological Sciences (PAANS) and Founding Member-Past-Vice President of the African Academy of Neurology (AFAN).
