Biography

Abiodun Humphrey Adebayo is an astute Professor of Biochemistry, a University Administrator and Award-winning Researcher. He was the immediate past Vice-Chancellor of Covenant University- one of the leading universities in Africa driven by a vision to raise a new generation of leaders. As the Vice-Chancellor, he successfully led Covenant into globally rated World Class University status through her impressive global rankings. He is a council member and trustee of the Association of Commonwealth Universities (ACU). He serves as a member of the Risk and Audit Committee of ACU. He is also an elected member of the governing board of the Association of African Universities (AAU). He is a Fellow of the Nigerian Young Academy and the Chartered Institute of Administration.

Prof. Adebayo was recently elected as a Fellow of the Nigerian Academy of Science. Prof. Adebayo holds a B.Sc, M.Sc. and PhD degrees in Biochemistry and had a postdoctoral training at the Chinese Academy of Sciences. He specialized in Plant Biochemistry and Biochemical Toxicology and has been actively involved in the sustainable use of indigenous medicinal plants. Prof. Adebayo, who is a recipient of the prestigious Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS) and the Academy of Sciences for the Developing World (TWAS) Fellowship awards, has published in reputable local and international journals. Prof. Adebayo and his research group have won several research grants. Prof. Adebayo reviews for some local and high impact journals. He is also listed on the editorial board of some international journals. He is a member of the accreditation panel of the National Universities Commission (NUC) where he visited and accredited Biochemistry programme in some Nigerian Universities. He is an external assessor of faculty appointed into Professorial Chair to some Universities. He had also served as an external examiner to some Universities. He has supervised several Bachelor, Master’s and PhD students. Prof. Adebayo is a member of the Scientific Advisory Board and Council of QNET, an international and leading wellness and lifestyle company. Prof. Adebayo is a recipient of several local and international awards and had served as keynote, invited speaker, guest speaker and roundtable discussant at some local and international conferences, workshops, seminars, etc. Prof Adebayo was recently honored as the most distinguished Vice-Chancellor (Private category) in Nigeria at the Nigeria Excellence Award for 2024. Prof. Adebayo’s biography was published in the 30th edition of Marquis Who’s Who in the World in the United States. He was a former Dean of the School of Postgraduate Studies, Covenant University, Ota, Nigeria. He is happily married to Dr (Mrs). Olufunke Adebayo and their marriage is blessed with three  children.
