Abdulrazak Shaukat was elected as an AAS Fellow in 2013. As a fellow, Abdulrazak Shaukat contributes to the development of the Academy's strategic direction through participation in AAS activities and governance structures. Prof. Shaukat Abdulrazak is the Principal Secretary (Minister) for Science, Research and Innovation, Kenya. Prior to his appointment in 2024, he was Director for Africa at the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA). In this capacity, he facilitated IAEA technical cooperation support to 50 countries in Africa in peaceful use of nuclear technology (including Human health, Agriculture, Industrial, Energy).
Before joining the IAEA, he served as CEO at the Kenya National Commission for Science, Technology and Innovation (NACOSTI). He has more than 30 years working experience at various leadership positions including Prof. and DVC (Research and Extension) at Egerton University and VC at Umma University, chairman and member of national and international boards, including the chair of Kenya Marine and Fisheries Research Institute, African Technology Policy Studies, the Kenya National Economic Social Council, the African Commission on Nuclear Energy and the International Centre for Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology
