Overview
Africa’s next generation of researchers is redefining how science can address some of the planet’s most pressing challenges — from climate change and biodiversity loss to food security and clean energy. Yet, despite their groundbreaking work, many African scientists still face barriers to visibility, recognition, and access to global platforms.
At Science Forum South Africa 2025, the African Academy of Sciences and the Frontiers Planet Foundation will host an inspiring session titled “Bridging Science and Sustainability: Empowering the Next Generation of African Researchers.” This high-level event will explore how to strengthen pathways for African-led innovation and ensure that research for planetary health translates into tangible global impact.
A highlight of the side event will be the announcement of the inaugural African Planet Prize (APP) winners, recognising transformative, Africa-led research that advances solutions for sustainability and planetary health. Each of the three winners will receive a USD 5,000 award, underscoring the AAS’s commitment to celebrating scientific excellence and empowering emerging researchers.
Join us as we celebrate African innovation, spotlight groundbreaking research, and inspire collective action for a sustainable future.
