Context

In an era where climate change, biodiversity loss, environmental degradation, economic inequality, and social injustice threaten the very fabric of our societies, research and science diplomacy can play a critical role in shaping a more sustainable and equitable future for all. International cooperation in research & innovation (R&I) is of strategic importance for the EU, as reflected in its Global Gateway strategy and its Global approach in the field of R&I, which both offer a renewed political framework based on reciprocity, shared interests and targeted investments.

Objectives

Organised by the members of the European Research Alliance for Sustainable Development (ERASuD), this event will stress the importance of fostering sustainable and equitable research partnerships between Europe and Low-and-Middle-Income Countries (LMICs) in order to address the interconnected challenges facing our planet. It will start by presenting how sustainability science can effectively respond to the current global challenges and will feature testimonies from research partner institutions in Africa, Latin America and Asia. The event then will formally launch the newly created ERASuD with presentations of its overall mission statement as well as key recommendations. View Agenda
