For the past ten years, Professor Dlamini has worked with advanced materials applied in advanced oxidation processes (AOPs). Dlamini earned his PhD in Chemistry from the University of Johannesburg and is currently an associate professor. His research focuses on novel photocatalysts towards the degradation of recalcitrant emerging pollutants in water. Furthermore, the group seeks to understand the fate and behaviour of the prepared materials to minimize any secondary impact on the environment. Prof Dlamini's photocatalytic nanomaterials research group (PNRG) has published over 40 papers and trained over 20 postgraduate students in advanced materials. Various stakeholders, including WRC, NRF and ESKOM, support his work. He was elected as an AAS Affiliate for his continued contribution to providing clean and safe water using advanced nanotechnologies capable of removing and fragmenting emerging pollutants in water systems.
The Affiliates Programme recognizes and supports the development of promising African early and mid-career scientists into world class research leaders who contribute to the Academy's vision of transforming lives through sciences.
