Dr Oluwafemi Gabriel Oluwole is an enterprising genomic scientist and lecturer at the University of Cape Town, South Africa, and the University of Oxford, United Kingdom. He is a serious contributor to research in neuropharmacology and neurogenetics. Dr Oluwole made remarkable achievements in the nutraceutical industry in Nigeria while organising pre-clinical studies on natural or synthetic bioactive compounds. Dr Oluwole now investigates Parkinson's disease (PD), Neurostress, and hearing impairment in African patients. He has identified novel mutations, including the mutation in a DNA repair gene associated with hearing impairment for the first time. Of note, Dr Oluwole is one of the few Y-rated researchers by the National Research Foundation of South Africa. Dr Oluwole supervises postgraduate students and he is an ardent reviewer for scientific journals. Presently, he is the Editor of Open Medicine Journal. He is an AAS Affiliate for his immense contribution to neuroscience and genomic medicine through experimental models, DNA sequencing and mutational analyses to address the diagnosis, prognosis, prevention, and treatment aspects of medicine in Africa owned to his collaboration with H3Africa, NIH, Wellcome and AAS fellows.
The Affiliates Programme recognizes and supports the development of promising African early and mid-career scientists into world class research leaders who contribute to the Academy's vision of transforming lives through sciences.
